My family and I live in NYC on a pretty busy tree lined street. Aside from the noise of the passing cars I worry about the quality of the air that is getting into my home. After the winter passes and we begin to open up our windows I always notice a black film has developed on the sills. I am pretty sure this is dust and dirt that comes from the pollution in the air.
So I could only imagine what is getting into my house when we have the windows open during the fall, spring, and parts of the summer. Aside from the pollutants and dust from the passing cars the pollen from the trees comes in, as well as mold and other microscopic bugs. It scares me to think about what my children and I are breathing in on a daily basis.
We usually take several trips a year out of the city and up into the mountains to expose us to fresher air. You can really feel a difference when you get out of the city away from all of the cars, trucks, and all the buildings. There is nothing like walking through the woods and smelling the fresh pine filled air. It is too bad we cannot bottle the air from the mountains and bring it home to release in our home. Although it sounds like a wonderful solution it really isn’t feasible. That is why I started looking into home air purifiers that could help make the air we breathe cleaner.
I have never purchased an air purifier before so I wasn’t sure what features to look for. The only experience I ever had with an air purifier was the one my Grandfather used to cover up his pipe smoke. Lets just say that it really didn’t do a good job. I do know that I was looking for something that wasn’t too big and didn’t make a lot of noise. After looking around online I set my site on the HR1000 air purifier from Winix. The features that impressed me about this model were its 5-Stage Air Purification system with a true HEPA filter and Plasma Wave Technology.
If all that doesn’t sound impressive the Winix filter is also WiFi enabled so I can monitor the air quality of my home in real time via the Winix app, whether I am at home or away from home.
For example right now the app says that the air quality inside our house is fair while the air quality outside today in NYC is poor. The app also allows me to manually control the Winix air purifier. I can adjust the speed, set the timer, operate the light, shut off the plasma wave and put on the child lock. This is a great feature to have if you have young ones at home that like to press buttons and get into things. With the child lock feature enabled they can press all the buttons they want and nothing will happen.
So far we are enjoying our new air purifier from Winix. We decided to place it in our living room, this is where, as a family, we spend most of our time together. We watch movies, read, sit on the couch, play with kids.
I like that the unit is quiet and portable and can be moved in the kids bedrooms or basement if needed.
With fall coming up, this might be the perfect time to bring an air purifier into the home. People are turning the A/C off and opening their windows as it begin to cool down. Working in how this is a great time of year to be thinking about breathing clean air to keep your family as healthy as possible.
