We all crave beautiful, lustrous, shiny hair but most of us fall short. Are you a fashion slave? Do you find yourself dying, perming, or heat styling your hair consistently? Night, Night Shampoo Right
Your hair doesn’t actually NEED to be washed daily or every other day. Actually you are better off if you don’t wash daily. If you have oily hair like mine, spray some dry shampoo (I like Alterna Anti-aging Dry Shampoo is only about $13 and works great) on your hair at night before hitting the sack. Your hair will soak up the shampoo as you sleep, making your hair ready to go in the morning. (Plus, you get extra sleep..shh)
Wrap, don’t Rub
When you get out of the shower, wrap your hair up. Letting the towel soak up as much moisture as possible will keep you from getting split ends.
Stop, Hold that Brush!
Did you know that when you brush your hair when it’s wet, that it damages it? Your hair isn’t built to be brushed when it’s soaking wet. It pulls the strands and causes breakages. You can use a wide-tooth comb to detangle it when it’s wet, but the small spacing of a brush will harm your hair. So wait until your hair is at least damp before using a brush. To detangle without pulling, start at the bottom and slowly work your way up. That way you aren’t forcing your hair into knots.
Slow Your Role
Instead of hopping straight out of the shower and blasting your hair with a blow-dryer, wait. Wait as long as possible *at least until your hair is damp* to use a blow-dryer. The longer your hair is held hostage by the heat, the more damage your hair is going to have. So keep blow-drying to a minimum by not using it on soaking wet hair.
Crack an egg into a cup or bowl and bring it to the bathroom with you. Add a little shampoo to the egg mixture and apply it to your wet hair. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water. The egg mixture added into your shampoo with strengthen your hair follicles with much needed protein.
Rescued by the Mayo
Mayonnaise is great for something other than sandwiches and salads, it’s also amazing for your hair. You can make your own deep conditioner just by using Mayo. Coat your hair in it, cover it (with a shower cap, hair cap, or even a plastic bag) and let it set for an hour. Mayonnaise is a great source of protein and you’ll see an immediate difference in your hair.
Wash Hair Blues Away
The shampoo and styling products we use, also build up on our scalp and in our hair follicles. To rinse all those products out, grab your box of baking soda and use a couple tablespoons in your hair with a tiny bit of water until it becomes pasty. Massage it throughout your roots as best as you can. Let it sit for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water. Can be done weekly!
Make Your own natural vinegar hair rinse.
The truth is that hair really appreciates the vinegar rinse due to its acidic nature. Mix 1 part vinegar (Organic Raw apple cider vinegar is the hair care favorite because it leaves less of an odor) with 2 parts of water. To minimize odor, add few drops of your favorite essential oils. Use this mixture as a FINAL rinse after your shampoo. Do not rinse with water after vinegar rinse.
