Last Friday I was wandering around Costco, looking for healthy foods and munching on the free samples. I came across this lady who gave me something green and frozen to try from a small paper cup. It looked like a frozen dessert or a slushy with high peak. As soon as I licked the top, I was instantly in heaven and began watching her demonstrations.
Apparently this lady was promoting a blender that they were selling at the store and doing her demonstrations of the delicious foods you can make in it. I didn’t care for other foods much but this Lemon-Lime Sorbet that she just gave me, really hooked me and got me standing there and watching her making it. It was SO delicious! Seriously! Perfect combination of sweet and sour. If you close your eyes you may imagine that you’re on the beach 🙂
I thought I will have an instant heart attack from all the sugar and sweetness because for the past 2 months I just living my lovely no-carb and low-carb lifestyle and I’m loving it. I don’t normally use lots of sugar in my food and I no longer crave it. I love to blog about healthy, paleo friendly and low carb foods.
But this dessert I HAD to bring home to repeat for my husband and kids because I knew they will love it too. Another brilliant point is that it only has 4 simple organic ingredients that probably EVERYONE has in their kitchen right now and it takes less than 5 minutes to make! Nailing it!
The lady at Costco was super nice. Although she was doing a great job promoting her blender, she told me how easy it was to make with 4 simple ingredients. She also insisted that no other blender can do the job, but when I came home I tried the recipe in my my basic blender, which is Ninja and another one Panasonic, and they came out just great.
The key is – that your blender must be able to crush and blend the ice and the spinach leaves (only used for natural green coloring) into this kind of this smooth consistency. If you turn your blender upside down, the inside consistency should not fall out. That’s it! She nailed it!
I specifically love this recipe for my kids, because I know how little kids, tweens and teens crave this slushy from “fast stores” BUT it is LOADED with chemicals, GMO, Sugar, artificial ingredients and colors. It is a heart attack overload, I think.
4 Crazy Organic Ingredients that you need:
1/2 Peeled lime
1/3 Cup of Blue Agave (which is 5 tablespoons)
About 10 Spinach leaves for color
Note about Agave: It is very sweet so in the beginning you can add 2-3 tablespoons. But it is low glycemic syrup that is slowly absorbed by the body preventing spikes in blood sugar.
About 4-6 Cups of ice
Then turn your blender on and crush it and blend it or whatever setting you use for your frozen dessert. Like I mentioned above, the key is – that your blender must be able to crush and blend the ice and the spinach leaves (only used for natural green coloring) into this kind of this smooth consistency. Serve into paper cups and start enjoying right away. Beware of the brain freeze though! So lick slowly!
