For the past 2 years or so ever since I started bicycling again I have been looking for a portable music device that would attach to my bike. Not just a plain old radio but also something that would sync with my smart phone through blue tooth or wifi. I wanted to have the ability to play my music on a speaker while I was riding my bike around the park. My husband kept urging me to plug my earphones into my phone and listen to music that way like he did. I was reluctant to do that for safety reasons. When I drive my bike I like to be able to hear the cars and other potential sources of danger. So wearing earphones was not going to do it for me. He then suggested that I strap on a small portable wired speaker that we have for home use. I didn’t feel comfortable with that either because there was no place to safely place my phone and the speaker.
After searching online for some time I finally found a product that was just what I needed. It is called the NYNE Cruiser (The biker buddy) and it is made by NYNE Multimedia.
It is a really cool looking, wireless blue tooth enabled speaker, that can attach with brackets to your bike, stroller, shopping cart or whatever has a bar (provided the bracket fits around it).
It can also be used around the house, outside, at the beach or just about anywhere you want to bring your music. It has a rechargeable battery with about 10 hours of life according to there website. It also has a 3.5mm aux-in if you want to hook it up to your TV. You simply charge your Nune cruiser by plugging into your PC or Laptop USB. And what I found later that it can also be charged with my Samsung Galaxy 4 phone charger, So I pretty much do not need their extra USB cord. The total charge time is 2 hours.
The best things about the NYNE Cruiser in my opinion are the lightweight, portability, and sound quality. This speaker really fills the room up with music in a deep and well-balanced sound. If you closed your eyes you would think you are listening to a much larger speaker. Now as far as installing it on my bike well that’s another story. My husband said it took him some trial and error to get the speaker with the brackets attached to my bike handlebars. Like most my bike handlebars are not straight. So it was not that difficult getting the brackets attached to them if the speaker was already mounted. However getting the speaker off and then back on was a bit tricky. You see the brackets attach to the bike and the speaker is meant to slide on and off. Since the handlebars are not straight the position of the brackets is not straight making it difficult to line up the parts on the speaker. My husband suggested that the company should make a pivot on the back of the speaker or on the brackets so the installation would be more flexible.
If you have a straight bar on your bicycle or stroller then mounting should not be much of an issue. When riding my bike and listening to the music the experience was pretty good. I was still able to hear the cars and traffic around me while listening to my favorite tunes at the same time. To me that is a win-win situation. I get to feel safe while listening to great sounding music.
The triple bonus came Friday night when we had friends over for hot wings. We were able to hang out at the kitchen table and stream music over from our devices onto the NYNE Cruiser. What was great is that all of our friends who had music on their phones could broadcast it over the bluetooth connection of the NYNE. I cannot wait to use the NYNE outdoors during our next barbecue and during our next beach outing. Make sure you check out the NYNE website (www.nyne.com) to see what other products they have and let me know what you think.
