The Big Game is coming to New York City and will be here on February 2nd. Well the actual Super Bowl will be held in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey. While it is a stones throw from NYC it is still in New Jersey. With this said we all know that most of the pre and post game action is going to occur in NYC with most of it centered on the island of Manhattan. No offense to East Rutherford but asides from Giants Stadium there really isn’t much around there except allot of marsh land. Now I was wondering you would think with the Big Game being held in their very own stadium the Jets or the Giants would have made a stronger effort to get to the game this year. I guess we will leave that story for another blog titled “Will the Real New York Football Team Please Stand Up?” All kidding aside with the big game coming to NYC one can’t help but thing about all of the great Super Sunday parties that will take place.
When it comes to parties for the Big Game we have to talk about party supplies including, snacks, drinks, plates, cutlery, napkins, and more. In case you didn’t know already Duane Reade can be your go to place to get many of your party snacks and supplies. Many people still think of Duane Reade as just you local pharmacy but that is furthest from the truth. Since being taken over by Walgreen’s they have really revamped their image to be a one-stop source for all of your needs.
Many of their locations now include fresh food including produce and many supermarket items.
They also have you covered when it comes to snacks and munchies. Especially products made by the Mars Company. Mars is the company behind such favorites as M&M’s, Snickers, Twix, Skittles (that’s good for Marshawn Lynch of the SeaHawks) and many other products. I found this huge isle neatly loaded with Mars products!
This past week MARS, Duane Reade and Walgreen’s sponsored a meet and greet autograph signing event with NJ Giants wide receiver Rueben Randle. The event was related to the Big Game so I was a bit confused as to why they chose a NJ Giants player to be there, considering they weren’t even close to be in contention for the Super Bowl this year. Come to think of it neither the Jets nor the Giants even made the playoffs this year. Oh well maybe next year or not, considering the way both teams have been playing. Okay I got off topic once again as you can see I’m a bit upset that Giants lost. Lets talk about my day in Manhattan and meeting the very personable and tall NJ GIANT wide receiver Rueben Randle.
This event was open to public and everyone could go to Walgreens on Times Square, go up to the 3rd floor, where Reuben Randle was signing autographs with his large photos. My husband thought ahead of time of getting another photo off the internet. So he quickly found a good shot of Rueben Randle and printed it. Rueben was pleasantly surprised when he saw that I brought another pic of him. I kindly asked him to put my name on the autograph and he wrote “To Irina” which was nice. Then I had an opportunity to take a photo with Rueben. When he stood up, I was like oh wow! because he was so tall!! It is difficult to tell when you see the players on the TV since they are all so big.
The event sponsors were giving away lots of free fan gear items, such as footballs, hats, gloves, snickers, candy and much more.
When I saw so much Snickers were laying around I grabbed a few immediately thinking about my kids. Since we’re going to our friend’s house this Sunday for a spectacular Big Game party I decided to put together a gift basket and add some simple products such as everyone’s favorite chips and candy. There will be at least 15 kids in the house so I thought these snacks will be perfect for their enjoyment during the big game.
Since Duane Reade and Walgreen’s is a great resource for all your game day needs, they had some great specials for fans to stock up on. I scored 2 for $4 large packs of Lay’s chips, 2 for $6 packs of mini chocolates and some small packs to add to the basket, all for $15.
